GCPC EPISODE 420 – Distinguishing A Geocache Size, Terrain and Difficulty

This week’s discussion is confirming to the best of our abilities what is the best way to correctly distinguish what a geocache’s size, terrain and difficulty should be.

Containers Explained

Sizes

micro: Less than 100ml. Examples: a 35 mm film canister or smaller, typically containing only a logbook or a logsheet. A nano cache is a common sub-type of a micro cache that is less than 10ml and can only hold a small logsheet.

small: 100ml or larger, but less than 1L. Example: A sandwich-sized plastic container or similar. Holds only a small logbook and small items.

regular: 1L or larger, but less than 20L. Examples: a plastic container or ammo can about the size of a shoebox.

large: 20L or larger. Example: A large bucket.e.g. 5-gallon bucket (about 20 liters)

other: See the cache description for information. Unusual geocache containers that just don’t fit into other categories.

GCPC EPISODE 419 – The Geocaching Stump The Host Quiz

In tonight’s episode our hosts will compete with themselves over a friendly geocaching quiz. Headhardhat will provide the questions to Scott, Corey and Chad for a head to head to head competition.

More details to be brought up tomorrow. Look here for details…

Rules To The Quiz:
Headhardhat is the game master and controls the quiz
Each host plays against each other
There are seven 100pt questions, seven 200pt questions and seven 300pt questions (21 question choices total).
A host is randomly determined to answer a question each time (via random number generator).
The host can choose the difficulty of the question from the non-selected questions available. If they answer the question correctly they gain the points chosen. If they do not answer the question correctly they lose ALL their accumulated points and are reverted back to zero points.
Host with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Prize: GxProxy – Conquer the Minotaur Geocoin
Congratulations to the Winner: TAZ427

Scott Berks and Andy Headhardhat Smith mentioned in a Wall Street Journal article
http://www.wsj.com/articles/in-see-something-say-something-era-geocachers-hidden-treasures-set-off-alarms-1440190160

DEADLY SINS 2: BAD HIDES EDITION
Start with this: Meaningless geocache hides with no value to the find/Lousy geocache at the end of a puzzle/Multi cache. (like a lampskirt after a 4 stage multi or a really hard puzzle cache). This drives me crazy. Please get some creativity or at least a freaking SMALL cache!
Bad woodsy hides. I am SO sick of trying to find a bison in the woods. Seriously. You’re missing the point. Don’t hide a bison when there is room for a Buick.
Rate caches accordingly. A film canister is NOT a small.
Throwdowns can fit in this section (SAI)
