Offline Functionality What information is important while caching offline?

For the folks that use a smartphone to cache, the Product Development Team is curious to learn more about how you use offline functionality. It’s a tricky thing to balance data bandwidth/space constraints, performance/speed, and access to the information that you need to have fun playing the game. Your feedback will help us to find that balance in our apps. Thanks!

GC4Z21M Keaconcrete (fiordland) — mentioned in the show in New Zealand

I attempted this one in February but turned back after “TRAIL CLOSED” signs were posted due to rock falls.

I heeded the warnings. Others apparently do not.

Question for your show: would you do something “illegal” to get a cache. Might need to debate “illegal”, or perhaps really crazy like going beyond barriers.

A couple pictures are attached for your amusement, fog moving in and the pesky Kea bird. Send to Infoferret too. Note: She dropped my name on your show a couple weeks ago about an event in Wellington she missed.

Thanks for your show.

Happy Friday everyone!
Just moments ago, Geocaching HQ announced via the Geocaching Blog and our social channels that the community has voted to return and reactivate the Mission 9: Tunnel of Light APE cache.
We will reactivate the APE cache on August 19, 2017, the date of the Going Ape 2017 Mega-Event at Washington’s Iron Horse State Park.

Here are the result of more than 10,000 votes:
61% — Return and Reactivate
17% — Activate Once A Year
13% — Display at Geocaching HQ
9% — Traveling Artifact

In the coming weeks, Geocaching HQ will work closely with the Washington State Geocaching Association (organizer of the Going Ape Mega-Event) and we will update the community as additional details are worked out.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Yours in caching,
Chris Ronan

Found a great story that made me think of InfoFerret on New Zealand. Smart kea birds along the Milford Sound Highway at the Homer Tunnel

Best geocache in proximity actually lends itself to the story GC4Z21M Keaconcrete (fiordland)

The Hiking and Geocaching on NZ sounds spectacular. Gotta get myself there someday. Thanks Sarah and GCPC for introducing the GCs “down under”

Hey guys I have been a listener for a while now and also contribute to the Patreon cause I love the show. I was wondering how you guys find time to get the caching in. I started in 2008 and find myself being into it for a week then off for a quarter. One of the best things I use the game for is finding new places when I visit a new town. I first visited my brother at his new house in Ft. Lauderdale in 2010 and one of the ways I learned how to get around down there is through Geocaching. Needless to say, it helped my find cool new areas. Up until recently I have only made about 325 finds. Now that my kids are older I am making a push for 500 by year’s end and 1000 by the end of 2018. Any tips that you can give me to hit my milestones?

Thanks! JDKint

Hi Guys,

Loved Show 485 with the different Geocaching vehicle ideas. Investigated the Tifffin Coach Zephyr and really love this luxury coach. So here is the idea. This coach is able to pull 15000 lb. So get a trailer that fits your favorite SUV + this trailer (came across this link by fluke)

http://conqueror4x4usa.com/index.php/videos/

Watch the trailer video of the UEV-440 The Swiss Army Knife Camping Trailer, to find out how unique their design is.

We believe this combo would get you to ANY geocache accessible via ground (no water, though). And think about the luxury that awaits you when you come back…

Keep on cachin’
